Transitioning Dog Food Transitioning to a New Dog Food

Whether you just got a new puppy, your dog has developed allergies, or their digestive system needs a specialized formula, a pet owner should always ease into transitioning their pet to a new food. A drastic change in food without transition can lead to an upset stomach.

How to change their food

The transition from one formula to another or one brand to another should take about 1 week; of course, this all depends on how well your dog adjusts. It could take a little longer or they could adjust sooner.

  • Day 1 and 2: Start feeding 25% of the new food and 75% of the old food
  • 3 and 4: Start feeding 50% of the new food and 50% of the old food
  • 5 and 6: Start feeding 75% of the new food and 25% of the old food
  • Then on day 7: 100% of the new food
